John Julius Kuchenbecker aged 64 yrs, is dead at his home, No 310 South Neville St. He served as an officer in the Prussian army during the war with Austria in 1866 and with France in 1871-1872. For gallantry he was awarded with a gold medal which was pinned to his breast by the King of Prussia, afterward Emperor William I of Germany. In the Franco-Prussian war he was given a service medal made from the captured French cannon. He was born in Prussia January 24, 1841 and came to America shortly after the war with France. He settled in Pittsburgh and followed the vocation of stone mason. Six children--John, William, and Otto of Pittsburgh, and Charles of Los Angeles, CA and Mrs Lena Loeffler and Mrs Mathilda Bartlett of Clarksburg, WV survive. He was a member of the German Church and of Armenia Lodge No 447, DOH. |
