Kuchenbecker, age 91, of Yankton, SD; formerly of Madison, SD; died Friday, June 23, 2006, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton. Ruby Loretta Haskins was born April 21, 1915, near Winfred, SD, to Hugh and Elda (McKinney) Haskins. She graduated from Oldham High School. She attended Eastern Normal State Teachers College at Madison and began her teaching career in rural schools. She married Leonard Kuchenbecker on December 18, 1937, at Pipestone, MN. They lived in Madison their entire married lives. Leonard passed away on August 29, 1994. Ruby worked for the Madison Daily Leader where she wrote a column called Kitchen Kapers. Later she finished her education at Dakota State University and returned to her beloved career of teaching. She taught 4th Grade at Washington Elementary School in Madison for 25 years. Teaching was her passion and her students lovingly called her "Mrs. K." She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Madison Retired Teachers Assn. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: her parents; her husband; one brother, Merl Haskins; one sister Jean Moe; an infant sister and an infant granddaughter. SURVIVORS: two daughters, Judy (Josef) Linn of Casper, WY and Nora (Darrel) Lee of Yankton; five grandchildren, David (Becky) Linn of Abilene, KS, Laura (Keith) Austin of Casper, WY, Sherri (Kevin) Herrboldt of Yankton, Michele Lee of Ames, IA, and Jeff (Marissa) Lee of Mitchell; and 11 great grandchildren.
